Bitterroot Swim Team takes fourth at state

The Bitterroot Swim Team capped off their summer season with a fourth-place finish at the state meet in Fort Benton.
“We could’ve done better,” BST head coach Kirk Frye said. “That whole east side was just demolishing the west. I think we did the best points wise from the west which I think was great.”
The team finished with 476 points while Malta, Sidney and Lewistown took the top three places after the two-day meet.
“The weather was nice but it was a long first day,” Frye said. “Twelve hours. Hopefully that doesn’t happen again.”
BST swimmer Zander Smith won high point honors for the intermediate boys with first-place finishes in the 50-and 100-meter butterfly and a second-place finish in the 200 meter individual medley.
“He really rocketed out this weekend,” Frye said of Smith.
Frye also mentioned the effort of swimmers Nellie Moran, Stephanie Henson and Brandon Moore.
“All the kids that were there swam great,” Frye said. “They learned a lot, I hope, from what they saw.”
Though the team will lose some swimmers, Frye said a solid core will return next year.
“They’re coming back next year pretty strong,” Frye said.
