He’s a solid 6-foot-7, fierce on the football field, a beast on the basketball court and dominator of the discus and shot put during the spring.
It’s hard to stop Blue Devil Dalton Sybrant.
The Billings native and Corvallis junior is leading the state in the shot put with a 53 foot 11 inch throw and is second in the discus with a 169-4 toss and it’s only a few weeks into the season.
With all conference accolades, he’s a force to be reckoned with on the gridiron and hardwood but Sybrant wants to pursue throwing and hopes to one day compete in the Olympics.
His physique can be intimidating but don’t be fooled, Sybrant is friendly and nice and will one day leave some big shoes to fill in Corvallis athletics.
Q: How and why did you get involved with athletics?
A: I really like sports. It’s something that interests me. My whole family has been involved in sports and it’s something really fun to do.
Q: What are your strengths and weaknesses as an athlete?
A: My strength is my size. My weakness is I’m probably a little irritable sometimes. That works out in football though.
Q: What’s your most memorable sports moment/event?
A: Throwing 160 feet my sophomore year. That was one of the greatest feelings I’ve had in a while.
Q: What is your earliest sports memory?
A: In second grade playing soccer against a good team, I remember a kid that was flipping around and it was pretty intimidating.
Q: What is your favorite sport to play and why?
A: My favorite sport is probably track because I have a good coach. It’s very laid back and it’s not as stressful as the other sports.
Q: What do you like doing in your free time?
A: I like lifting, hanging out with friends, going swimming and playing sports.
Q: Who has influenced you the most athletically?
A: Probably my coach Garrett Middleton. He’s influenced me a lot and helped me a lot and my other coach, Russ Hendrickson really motivates me in sports.
Q: Favorite sports team and/or player to follow?
A: My favorite college team is the Nebraska Cornhuskers. It’s a family thing.
Q: Any pre-game superstitions or rituals?
A: My ritual is I have to have very short shorts to throw and I always do the same routine when I walk into the discus or shot ring. I just kick my feet around. It’s all about routine.
Q: What is one thing you have to take with you when traveling for away games and why?
A: Definitely my throwing shoes and my two discuses. My discuses actually hold records. One holds the first state record in Illinois and the other one holds the new state record in Illinois. So I get to throw those, it’s pretty cool.
Q: What about you would surprise other people?
A: I’m really nice. I’m not a mean guy.
Q: Future plans?
A: I definitely want to continue throwing. I would love to throw in college but my biggest goal is to throw in the Olympics.
