Bucs split with Mavs

Tuesday evening in Missoula, the Bitterroot Bucs put down hometown Mavericks in the first of a Western A American Legion doubleheader.

Earning a 7-2 win in the first match, the Bucs then dropped to the Mavs 19-1 in the second.

The Bucs went up early in the opener, putting up five runs in the first inning.

The Mavs earned their first run in the second and tacked on their remaining score in the bottom of the seventh.

In the victory, Buc J.J. Hanna threw 11 strikeouts from the mound, walking just one batter.

From the plate, Luke Topp finished 2-for-4 with a two-run triple to lead the Florence-based Bucs.

Following the win, the Bucs struggled with Missoula pitcher Steve Koski as the Mav held the Bucs to four hits in the shortened game.

Max Burns led the Bucs by driving in the lone run off a double in the top of the third.

Next up for the Bucs is the Lewistown tournament on the road Friday through Sunday.

Red Sox

The Bitterroot Red Sox played in last weekend's Havre Baseball Jamboree tournament winning two and losing three of their five games.

The Red Sox played the Helena Reps, Havre Comets, Glasgow Reds, Havre North Stars and Gallatin Valley Outlaws.

The Red Sox lost to the Reps, Havre North Stars and Gallatin Valley but beat the Havre Comets and Glasgow.

Individual stats and scores were unavailable as of press time.

The Red Sox resume their season at the Mission tournament Friday and Saturday.
